Thank you for visiting this site, Should Pay is the UK's (if not World's) only Car Repair Guide Price Database. We have over 3700 UK spec cars in our database with over 60,000 prices. Never again will you have to go into a mechanic's garage without knowing what price you should be paying for car repairs.
Can't find the car?, Can't find the job you want a price for, can't find the car parts? then fill in our form an we will add it within 2-3 working hours of your request, we'll get you a guide price and add the price to our database at the same time.
What's more the site is all FREE! What's even more is that you DO NOT need to Register, we don't want / need your email address and we won't spam you for looking, It genuinely is all free!
OK, so how can you help us, well part of the data in our site is made up of people who have been to a mechanic or garage and had work done. We would be grateful if you could let us know what you paid for the work (No personal Details). This way we can keep the site accurate and up to date.
The site is one big community of people all passing on knowledge to prevent others from being ripped off by rogue garages. Of course if you don't want to help or can't help then that is fine aswell, just use the site as much as you like, it's still FREE! |

A new scheme is taking hold at some garages across the UK, the scheme involves customers renting garage space. Sounds very strange but garages are letting out their space and tools for as little as £10 per hour.
In the offer you get to use things like the ramp to lift your car in to the air, the tools you need to complete the job and maybe if you are lucky a cup of tea. The scheme is meant for three types of customer;
- Those that are only doing simple jobs and can complete them themselves without help from a mechanic. The types of jobs would be tasks like an oil change or changing the air filter
- Those that know a lot about cars but don't have the need to buy expensive tools for a one off job when it is better to rent them.
Hopefully we won't get stories of drivers attempting to rebuild an engine without any previous knowledge or skills, because then we will have a whole new craze of people being towed out of a garage.
It will be interesting to see how the private initiative develops over the coming months, but it is clear that car mechanics have started to innovate and find new sources of income in the economic downturn.

Car repair prices are set to rise in the coming months because of EU dropping the rules which require manufacturers to share there repair data source code with independent mechanics.
At the moment you can take your vehicle to your local mechanic and if he or she has the correct data then they can read the fault codes on your car and locate the problem. However from next year they may not have anywhere to buy that data from.
This is because people like Ford and Toyota will no longer be forced to sell it to them.
What this means is that instead of being charged £20 by your local mechanic to connect the laptop up to your car and find the problem, you will now have to pay Ford and Toyota's prices and use their dealership. The cheapest price we have found for a dealer to connect their diagnostic tool to a car is £65+ Vat.
So if you think diagnosing a car fault is expensive now, stand by, here come the EU to make it all a lot worse. One can only hope UKIP do well on June the 4th and put an end to the EU interference.
